Bolinao Pangasinan holds grand fiesta named “Mangunguna Festival”. In Bolinao “mangunguna” means a fisherman. They celebrate Mangunguna Festival to give tribute to the fishing and aquaculture industry of the town, which is the number one source of livelihood of the community in Bolinao. It is a one week celebration from April 9 to April 14.
This year, Bolinao celebrated the 4th Mangunguna Festival with full of exciting events such as street dancing competitions participated by high school students from different schools in Bolinao and watersports competitions at the river and at the caquiputan channel. Watersports competitions such as bargisthon,patawthon and carabao race are performed in Balingasay river while watersports like banca race, balsa “bamboo raft” race, and swimming competitions are performed in Caquiputan channel. In Bolinao Pangasinan, “Mangunguna”in Bolinao dialect means Fishermen. This event is celebrated annually to give tribute to the fishery industry of the town. As we all know town of Bolinao is rich in aquatic life and the area is suited for aquaculture industry. In fact fishing and aquaculture is the main source of livelihood of the community. A week-long celebration called “Mangunguna” (local term for fisherman) Festival kicked off here Friday to give accent to the unity among residents and the gratitude over the bounty of their aquaculture industry.
“Mangunguna” was an offspring of the Bolinao town fiesta, in order to give tribute to our fishermen…eventually it has become a tourist attraction.
Now on its its seventh year, the festival lined up several activities all related to aquaculture such as water sports and a grand dining experience, among others.
