When  16-year-old Jessica Sanchez says she’s been singing her whole life, she  means it. By age 11, the powerhouse singer had already appeared on America’s Got Talent,  where she wowed with her cover of “I Surrender.” Five years later,  she’s still stealing the show — this time as a contestant on American Idol Season 11.

Jessica  was born in Chula Vista, California to Gilbert and Editha Sanchez. Her  father, a Texan, has Mexican heritage, and her mother was born in the  Philippines. They later relocated to San Diego, where the talented singer is now a high  school student.

Though  we didn’t see much of her before her Vegas performance of “The Prayer,”   she proved herself worthy of more screen time. Jessica wowed the  judges — and us — with her take on Jennifer Hudson’s “I Love You I Do”  in the Semifinals, which earned her a spot in the Top 13. For her Top 13  performances, Jessica took on a big song — Whitney Houston’s “I Will  Always Love You” — and nailed it, according to the judges. In the weeks  since, she has slayed one performance after the next, making her a definite competition frontrunner.

Just  in case her voice hasn’t won you over yet, the fact that she’s hoping  to win to help her family out financially just might sway you. Aww! –  wetpaint.com

LOS ANGELES — Gutsy “American Idol” contestant Jessica Sanchez  took on Whitney  Houston’s biggest hit, delivering a performance that awed the show’s  judges.

When host Ryan  Seacrest asked the panel to name Wednesday night’s top two singers among the  13 finalists, Steven  Tyler was ready.

“Jessica Sanchez and Jessica Sanchez,” Tyler said.

The 16-year-old San Diego high school student’s assured version of “I Will  Always Love You” was “just amazing. I don’t even know what to say,” Jennifer Lopez  exclaimed during the performance show.

“Jessica, you may be the one. You just made 40 million people cry,” Tyler  said (adding a dose of hyperbole by roughly doubling the show’s biggest  Wednesday night audience for the season so far).

Randy  Jackson didn’t hold back either, calling Sanchez “one of the best talents in  the whole country.” – nydailynews.com

Final results

On Top 3 Performance, Jessica Sanchez sung three songs, “My All” by Mariah Carey (Lopez’s choice), “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson 5, Iovine’s choice, and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. For “My All”, Tyler predicted she would win the competition, “When you sing, you make people hang on your every note. “I hope you get used to encores. And on another crazy note, I think you’ll be the last person standing there.” For “I’ll Be There”, Tyler said, “Perfect song, perfect voice, you nailed it, delicious” and Lopez stated “It was perfect for the tone in your voice. You almost sounded like Michael.” Jackson did not like the performance, saying, “Once again, we’re at the end here, and you’re on the stage with all these other dynamic singers. There was never a moment moment.” For “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, she received a standing ovation from Steven Tyler, who said “You just took a great song and made it greater. Thank you Diane Warren for writing that for me and for getting her to sing it as well as you did…beautiful.” Lopez also loved the performance, saying: “That was amazing. That note in the end! Oh, wow. Sends everybody into the heavens. Really, really great job, baby!” Jackson said, “I was waiting on a big moment and dude, you delivered man.”

In the Top 2 finale, Sanchez performed three songs including Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing”, which was chosen by Simon Fuller, the show’s creator. The following night in the results show, she finished as the runner-up of the season losing to Phillip Phillips after 132 million votes were cast by the viewers. – wikipedia.org
