TIMBAC BURIAL CAVE IN BENGUET
The best-preserved mummies are in the Timbac Caves. Located about 1200m above Kabayan proper, these are Kabayan’s most sacred caves, and locals customarily make offerings of gin and pinikpikan before entering them.

The caves are very small; inside the cave there are about 12 coffins, with 30 mummies. There are many other caves in the mountains, but only the old people know where they are located.

The girl died giving birth to a baby; probably something went wrong and the belly was cut trying to save the baby. You can still se the internal organs perfectly dried.
The Timbac Mummy Caves is another mummy abode which can be reached by hiking from a jump-off point along kilometer 52 of the Halsema Highway. It served as the final resting place of the mummified remains of a tribal priest named “Apo Annu”, who was estimated to be about 500 years old, located in Nablicong village.
This is a significant cave where the mummified remains of the locals’ ancestors are kept.
